It's possible you've never had substantial formal training in counselling skills or trauma-informed practice, yet people constantly confide in you. You’re compassionate, you like helping people, and you’re good at it - that’s why you chose this line of work.
But you might feel like you’re bracing yourself for whatever the next client might share with you. Your personal life probably feels challenging enough in itself, and you're holding space for others on top of that.
You may often feel out of your depth, triggered and exhausted. It can feel like a personal failing, but it isn’t! Those emotional conversations with clients can function like the slow drip-drip of a dye that colours how you see the world, how you feel in your free time, and how you act in your personal relationships.
Just to clarify now - I'm not here to “build your resilience" in order to make you more productive and useful in the workplace. I'm here to help you understand and support your nervous system, so you can feel more grounded at work and feel like yourself again outside of it.
Compassion fatigue - often termed 'the cost of caring' - and burnout are very common in the helping professions. I've spent decades in client-facing roles (as well as other corporate roles) - in the NHS, charities, schools, universities, and now as a therapist in private practice. I love what I do. Yet I've seen amazing colleagues quit because the emotional impact of the work went unchecked. I’ve experienced that, too.
This isn't a lecture filled with generic advice; you can find plenty of that online. Instead, my Decompression Session workshop is a space to reflect on your daily experiences- exploring how we can respond when a client shares that they're struggling, looking after both their wellbeing and our own.
Together, we’ll identify and unpack the specific sort of client interactions (anonymised appropriately) and daily pressures that leave you feeling heavy. It's a down-to-earth, collaborative session that introduces evidence-based tools and strategies along the way, enabling you to be more resourced and self-assured in your roles going forward.
The workshop can be a one-off session or something that recurs. It is available in-person throughout the Tonbridge, Sevenoaks, and Tunbridge Wells area.
🌤️ A 20 minute intro call to explore your specific setting, so that the workshop is tailored to your needs.
🌤️ A 1 hour interactive group session facilitated by Lisa, with the option of additional ongoing support.
Price: £130 - £150 in total (depending on exact location) for a workshop for up to 5 people. If you've got a larger group in mind, please contact me to discuss.
Location: delivered on your premises within the Tonbridge, Sevenoaks and Tunbridge Wells locality. If you don't have suitable premises, we can consider other options.
Want to chat through whether this would be a good fit for you and your colleagues?
Q: Do we all need to belong to the same business in order to book?
No! If you're a self-employed practitioner, you can join forces with local peers, book a group session, and split the fee between you (working out at just £26–£30 per person for a group of 5).
Q: What kind of space do we need to host the workshop?
We just need a private, quiet room where your team or group can sit comfortably without being overheard or interrupted. If you don't have access to a suitable space (for example, if you work in a open-plan office or mobile setting), let me know during our intro call and we can explore alternatives.
Q: Could this be classed as group therapy or clinical supervision?
No. While I am a BACP-registered therapist and clinical supervisor, The Decompression Session is a professional reflective workshop, not therapy or clinical supervision. It provides psycho-education and a structured space to explore the emotional impact of client-facing work, process compassion fatigue, and resource yourself.
Q: I'm looking for one-to-one support instead - is that something you provide?
Yes, I also provide individual therapy sessions, as well as Clinical Supervision for fellow Counsellors. My one-to-one sessions take place outdoors in nature in West Kent, and online across the UK & worldwide.
